CANON: Batman

POINT IN CANON: ALTERNATE FUTURE TIMELINE

AGE: 19

APPEARANCE:

CANON HISTORY: Dick Grayson was the first to die. He was shot trying to break up an arms deal and was dead by the time the police and paramedics arrived to the scene. Bruce was devastated, and withdrew into his grief. He attempted to shut out those he cared about, but the people surrounding him--Barbara Gordon, in particular--didn’t let him descend the downward spiral of self destruction that he may have otherwise been unable to avoid.

Two years after Dick’s death, Bruce and Barbara were married. By the time their daughter was born a year later, Superman had gone missing. It did not bode well for the justice-loving community of vigilantes, but they wouldn't know it yet for years. For a short time, Bruce and Barbara were actually happy, even with the ghosts that continued to haunt the Batman.

After Lex Luthor was elected president, he instituted a new agency of the government to deal with high-priority crime threats such as the “vigilante problem” that had swept the nation. The agency was headed by Authority, a genetic clone of Superman and Luthor. Authority began systematically removing members of the Justice League, showing no mercy to the rogues he hunted.

Bruce’s happiness was short lived, with the advent of the new agency. When Tim Drake went missing, Bruce became obsessed with finding him. A year later, his daughter Rebecca turned 10, and the Joker went to Luthor with Batman’s secret identity. Authority was dispatched to remove the threat. Bruce was away at the time of the attack, but Babs and Alfred were killed, after getting Becca to safety in the Batwing and sending it to another location.

Having suffered this devastating loss and failing to find Tim caused Bruce to withdraw. Becca made up her mind quickly to join the secret vocation of the bat family, but Bruce refused to teach her himself. He purchased the contract of a reformed Slade Wilson with the purpose to, quote, “keep her out of trouble.” Uncle Jason (Jason Todd) fell in with them some years later and aided in her tutelage.

Her life was spent on the run, with Authority always on the hunt after them. Slade and Jason kept them on the move, never spending more than two nights in the same location and often working under aliases. To make matters worse, Damian Wayne was hired by Luthor and worked closely with Authority to try and reign in his little sister, who he despised greatly.

Things did not get better. Heroes continued to die, and Luthor’s grip on the world tightened. Things came to a head when Jason and the Flash (Thaddeus Thawn under the identity of Bart Allen, whom he had murdered years before and now fought to redeem himself from the guilt that weighed upon him.) were the last heroes she knew left. Jason was mortally wounded and swore the Flash to keep Becca safe. Thaddeus used his time manipulation powers to bring the 19-year-old Becca back to the past in order to prevent their future from happening. It is from this point of her story that she would enter the game.

CANON PERSONALITY: Rebecca has a serious, dark attitude, reflecting the life she’s led up to this point. Trained by Slade Wilson and Jason Todd, she is cruelly efficient, but retains the bat philosophy of trying not to kill her opponents. Wounding, however, is another matter entirely. She prefers hand-to hand combat using her knowledge of mixed martial arts than any less-direct methods of combat, but she is not without a tactical mind. She relies less on instilling fear than some other bat family members, and more on intelligent use of force. She’s an opinionated snot, but more likely to simply state what she believes as fact and not argue than to fight about a point or insult others.

She's a lonely girl desperate for her father's approval, though she hides it under a convincing layer of bravado. Faced with people she knows held  Bruce’s affection in the past, she will most certainly be jealous, but it will manifest in different ways, from projected dislike to an unconscious rivalry, depending on how the interactions fall. Interactions with Damian, in particular, will be awkward for her because of his repeated attempts (and near successes) on her life.

She is not well equipped to handle people in her age group, having been many years younger than all of her friends and teachers. She is quick to defend those she cares (or those with the appearances of those she loves) and the things she believes in, all of which are based on a completely different worldview than the heroes of the canon comics.

Pop culture is not a thing that she is very familiar with, even from her own time period, and she relies heavily on the searchable databases in her suit’s computer, both to understand reference she would otherwise miss, and for establishing a tactical advantage with maps and other information.

Because of the life on the run, her palate is not very wide or varied, but she has a secret love for food...Sweets, in particular. Jason tried to make sure the kid got ice cream and cake on her birthdays, but it wasn’t always possible, and they couldn't really go out to hoity toity restaurants. Her diet consisted mostly of easily-prepared dishes, MREs, and street food, so complex flavor profiles are especially interesting to her.

She doesn’t care what people call her. Rebecca, Becca, Fox, Flying Fox, B...Any of these or variations are all fine, save for one: Becky. Her timeline’s version of Damian called her that, and it brings rather unpleasant memories to the forefront, so she will react with strong negativity anytime anyone calls her that.

POINT OF DEPARTURE: OC - She doesn't exist in canon. I’ve worked hard to create a character who is intrinsically flawed, but still fun to play and with plenty of room for growth while maintaining what I feel are themes central to the Batfamily stories.

She relies heavily on her suit and its capabilities, so if forced to investigate in a world where it would not be tactically sound to use/have her suit, she will be extremely uncomfortable. Infiltrating, on the other hand, is likely to broaden her view very quickly. She has only a narrow path of life experience, keeping her in the small box of who she thinks she is. By being forced to essentially be someone else entirely and retain those memories and experiences, she will first fight with, and then slowly come to gain, the ability to perceive a problem from other points of view. This is likely to make her a more easygoing person, unless her infiltrating experiences tend toward the negative. In that case, it will likely harden her even more, but interpersonal interactions with the other characters should keep her from becoming unplayable. I’m hoping for a lot of initial negative CR and confusion that slowly builds into more positive relationships, although a few immediate positive interactions will set a strong basis for forward growth.

ABILITIES: Combat training (melee, bladed weapons, firearms, thrown weapons), Criminology, Tactics, Gymnastics, Stealth, Urban and Wilderness Survival

INVENTORY: The Flying Fox Suit - Waynetech suit from 20 years in the future, equipped with bat-trinkets, advanced computing system, full-spectrum visual and audio enhancement, communications array, & rocket boots allowing for flight
